2026 Canadian Vision Impaired Curling Championshi<\/u><\/span>p (CVICC) Update - Edmonton, Alberta<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

As we embrace the shorter and colder fall and winter days,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>the Curling season for many gets underway. For Curlers\u00a0<\/span>who are blind and visually impaired, the quest to represent\u00a0<\/span><\/span>their respective province in the next Canadian Vision\u00a0<\/span>Impaired Curling Championship (CVICC) begins.<\/span><\/p>

The Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB) is pleased to\u00a0<\/span>announce that the next CVICC will take place in Edmonton,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Alberta, during the council’s annual awareness campaign,\u00a0<\/span>White Cane Week Feb. 1 \u2013 7, 2026.<\/span><\/p>

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

For the first time in its nearly 20-year history, this National\u00a0<\/span>curling event will take place in Western Canada. The curling\u00a0<\/span><\/span>will take place at the Granite Curling Club, home of the\u00a0<\/span>Edmonton Blind Curling Club for decades.<\/span><\/p>

Curlers from 7 Canadian provinces will join the 2025\u00a0<\/span>defending champion rink from Prince George, BC, in a round\u00a0<\/span><\/span>robin event to determine a new National Champion.<\/span><\/p>

Canadian Vision Impaired Curling Championshi<\/u><\/span>p  (CVICC) News - Feb 2025, Sydney, Nova Scotia<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

With less than one month to go before the return of this exciting event, after an absence of several years, the CVICC organizing committee has been hard at work planning for what promises to be a great week of curling and fellowship.<\/span><\/p>

The 2025 CVICC will take place at the Sydney\u00a0Curling Club 619 George Street, Sydney NS, from February 3rd to 7th .<\/p>

There will be 2 draws (games) per day on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, at 9am and 1pm, with a single draw on Thursday at 9am (unless a tie breaker is required in the afternoon at 1pm).<\/p>

On the Friday both the playoffs take place at 9am with the Gold medal draw taking place at 1:00pm, (note, all times are Atlantic). If you happen to be in or around the Sydney area, why not stop in and support the VI curlers.<\/p>

Louise Gillis, who I\u2019m sure many of you know for her many years of dedicated service to the CCB as National President, is the event\u2019s local host. \u201cWe are extremely excited to welcome the curlers from across Canada to Sydney\u201d she continues \u201cIt has been several years since the championship has taken place and I did not want to see it end, so that is why we stepped up to take it on this year so that it may continue well on into the future\u201d<\/p>

This is the first time ever that the event, with a rich almost 20 year history, has been held somewhere other than Ottawa (the home of the CCB\u2019s National Office).<\/p>

The event is a full round robin championship.<\/p>

While in Sydney, curlers will be staying at the Simon Hotel and we thank them for their support and hospitality. The Sydney Curling Club members have been simply outstanding in their support for the event. A big thanks goes out to them in advance.<\/p>

Although not written in stone yet, we anticipate that AMI audio will be broadcasting the games live on Friday. Please check with them for more details as the date draws near. We will also advise via the CCB social media channels. If this does happen, remember to adjust the listening times for where you are in Canada.<\/p>

Event results will be posted on the CCB National Facebook page as well as in this publication in March.<\/p>
